In my sermon following my trip to the Southern Baptist Convention I shared some alarming figures about the number of salvation decisions and baptism in our denomination. For example, 70-75% of SBC churches are plateaued or declining. In 2012 we had the lowest number of baptisms since 1948. 25% of our churches did not baptize anyone that year. And only 20% baptized anyone 18-29 yrs. of age. Our population in America is growing faster than our rate of conversions. Ultimately only the Holy Spirit can open a person’s heart to accept Christ. But Paul challenged his readers in 10:14, “But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?” It is our job to tell them!

We are giving you a couple of fun opportunities to do just that. Our Pork Day Parade float will feature a theme of religious freedom, and along with the water we give away at our booth, we will give away a gospel tract inviting folks to accept Jesus and come to church. You will have a great time hanging out with each other while showing kindness to some thirsty people and just maybe help meet the deepest need, the living water only Jesus can provide! We will have similar opportunities at the Fair, so watch the bulletin and facebook for more details to come.
